Track Campaigns with UTMs

UTM parameters allow you to track where your customers are coming from and measure the performance of your marketing campaigns.

When properly configured, Spiffy captures UTM data from a visitor’s journey and attaches it to resulting orders, making it available throughout you reporting and attribution tools.

What is UTM Tracking

When a visitor arrives on your website through a tagged link, Spiffy captures the UTM parameters and stores them as they move through your sales funnel. When the visitor completes a purchase, those UTM values are associated with the order and can be used in reports, filters, and attribution insights.

Spiffy also captures advertising click IDs from platforms such as Meta, Google, and TikTok. This data helps improve attribution and conversion matching when using supported advertising integrations.

How to Setup UTM Tracking with Spiffy

Install SpiffyJS on Every Page

For accurate attribution, install SpiffyJS in your website header or through Google Tag Manager so it loads on every page of your site.

SpiffyJS is responsible for capturing UTM parameters and ad click IDs when a visitor first arrives on your site. If it is only installed on checkout pages, visitors who browse your site before reaching checkout may lose their attribution data.

You can find your SpiffyJS code at the bottom of your account-level settings.

Add UTM parameters to links in your ads, emails, social posts, and other marketing campaigns. This helps Spiffy identify where each customer came from.

Spiffy supports the following standard UTM parameters:

ParameterDescription
utm_sourceWhere the traffic came from (facebook, google, newsletter, etc.)
utm_mediumMarketing channel (cpc, email, social, etc.)
utm_campaignThe specific campaign or promotion
utm_termKeywords or audience identifier
utm_contentAd or creative variation

Don’t want to create URLs manually? Use Spiffy’s UTM Builder to generate consistent campaign links in seconds.

Use Hosted Checkouts for Cross-domain Campaigns

If your marketing sends visitors between different domains, use hosted Spiffy checkout pages instead of embedded checkouts.

Hosted checkouts preserve attribution across domains more reliably, ensuring the original campaign stays connected to the customer’s purchase.

Connect Analytics and Tracking Tools to Spiffy

In addition to UTMs, SpiffyJS automatically captures ad platform click IDs, including those used by Meta, Google and TikTok. When you connect Spiffy’s integrations for Meta Pixel + Conversions API, Google Analytics, or TikTok Pixel, these identifiers help attribute more purchases back to your ads.
